The
Hinchinbrook Shire –
It’s
the natural Place to be.
One of the
best spots to see a variety of birdlife and wallabies is Tyto
Wetlands, a 90-hectare wetland site located in close proximity
to the township of Ingham. The wetland integrates lagoons,
interpretive signs, lookouts and bird hides, to entice visitors
to spend more time at Tyto. The extensive walking tracks throughout
the wetlands, will allow visitors the unique opportunity to
view wildlife closely without interference or disturbance to
wildlife and their habitats.
Within the
Hinchinbrook Shire there are 3 beaches, Forrest Beach, Taylors
Beach and Lucinda. Forrest Beach is a 15 minute drive from
Ingham and is a relaxing place with long white sandy beaches
which over look Orpheus and the Palm Island group. Taylors
Beach offers excellent fishing off its shores with the islands
and fringing reefs so close. Lucinda is the closest mainland
connection to Hinchinbrook Island and channel and offers an
excellent base for channel fishing.
Hinchinbrook
Island is the world’s
largest Island National Park and is home to the Thorsborne
Trail, which is an excellent way to experience Hinchinbrook
Island. The trail is 32 km along the east coast of the Island.
It is not a graded or hardened walking track and in some areas
is rough and difficult to traverse. For those who like adventure
the Thorsborne trail is for you!
