FEAST OF THE THREE SAINTS

The Feast of the Three Saints is held every year in Silkwood, Australia. The Feast brings people together, in celebration, from all over North Queensland and beyond, occurring on the first Sunday in May.



Festivities commence with the Three Saints Committee Dinner, which is traditionally held on the Friday evening of the Anniversary weekend. Sunday will see Mass celebrated with the Bishop, the Solemn Procession through Silkwood and Mass with the Scalabrinian Father, followed by the Blessing and Veneration of the relics of the Three Saints. Details of the attending Celebrants are yet to be confirmed but the event promises to be a major highlight for the district.

Other festivities include a barbecue, with traditional Italian food, stalls and entertainment and, of course, 7.00 p.m. will herald the lighting of the night skies with a brilliant fireworks display. Everyone is welcome to attend

 

AUSTRALIAN ITALIAN FESTIVAL

The Australian-Italian Festival showcases the Italian culture. One of North Queensland`s most colourful and successful events, provides an exciting line-up of entertainment for all ages and tastes and has provided 16 years of entertainment, socialising, feasting and family fun.

This award-winning three day event is a celebration of Italian heritage located in tropical North Queensland. Enjoying the best of authentic Italian cuisine and an extensive range of Italian wines and beverages visitors join the exuberant celebrations in the town`s piazza, and `mangiamo, beviamo e cantiamo` .....Eat, Drink and Celebrate.

The annual festival, a tribute to the Italian heritage of the sugar-growing Hinchinbrook Shire, had its humble beginnings as an idea from a community workshop. Today the award-winning event attracts thousands of people to this culturally enriched region of Australia.

 

TULLY GOLDEN GUMBOOT FESTIVAL

Tully's reputation for being "A Pretty Wet Place" is celebrated each year at the Golden Gumboot Festival. The 'Gumboot Games' are a major feature of this family oriented festival, along with a float parade, Golden Girl Quest and a big afternoon of entertainment, music, displays, Children's activities and food and market stalls. The festival is launched with a Supper Dance, where Quest entrants are introduced and judging occurs. The Gumboot Festival is Tully's major annual festival and each year a community organisation or a community project is selected to benefit from the festival proceeds.


BABINDA HARVEST FESTIVAL

The Annual Babinda community harvest festival (2010 is it's 47th year) is traditionally to celebrate the sugar cane harvest. Nowadays, it's an opportunity for locals to get together and raise money for various community activities through stalls and raffles.

Harvest Queen Quest: confidence building for young women and learn more about a role in community affairs.

Harvest Cabaret 22 May 2010: live band and bar.

Festival Day 29 May: Grand Parade in Munro Street - floats and procession. The inaugural revival of Babinda Boulders Burst Fun Run (approximately 10 kilometres) starts from 2.30 p.m. from the township to Boulders and finishes at the showgrounds.

Showgrounds from 3.30 p.m. free kids' activities, chopper lolly drop, pony rides and show rides. Community stalls and displays; local produce; historic machinery; hot food, drinks, icecreams; fireworks show; live band and bar till midnight.

NORTH QLD SPORTFISHING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Hinchinbrook region will again be the backdrop for this year’s North Queensland Sportfishing Championships. The location takes advantage of the wide-ranging of fishing environments and a centralized location in the north.

Fished under ANSA rules, anglers are able to fish from Clump Point, Mission Beach in the north to Lucinda Jetty in the south with no east/west boundaries, including the pristine Hinchinbrook Channel, the Great Barrier Reef and all unprotected fresh and saltwaters within.
