Experience the Great Barrier Reef without getting wet, at the world’s largest living coral reef aquarium.

Located in the Townsville CBD, Reef HQ is a unique and fascinating showcase of a living coral reef ecosystem. The underwater viewing tunnel reveals a 2.5 million-litre Coral Reef Exhibit, with its hard and soft corals, providing a home for the thousands of beautiful fish, giant clams, sea cucumbers, sea stars and other coral reef creatures.

The viewing tunnel also allows excellent viewing into the 750 000 litre Predator Exhibit. The wreck of the S.S. Yongala provides an eery backdrop and is home to shark species such as the blacktip reef shark; leopard and nurse sharks and a green turtle.

The SS Yongala is one of the world’s great dives. The SS Yongala is a national historical wreck that lies within Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The wreck begins at 14metres below the surface and sits on a sandy bottom at 28metres. The artifacts, marine life and variety of corals that cover the wreck are spectacular.

Adrenalin Snorkel & Dive is committed to protecting our natural environment. All our trips are ECO Certified by ECO Tourism Australia. This involves a commitment to environmental sustainability and education of our guests.

Our day vessel ‘Adrenalin’ is a 14m flybridge vessel which cruises at 17knots. It is fully fitted out for diving and snorkeling with easy access in and out of the water. Our Liveaboard vessel ‘ Sea Esta’ is a 17 metre mono-hull, which travels at approx 7.5 knots. She was built in Townsville, commissioned in 1982 and has been servicing the GBR from Airlie Beach to Cairns as a dive vessel. Sleeps 20 passengers. All berths are air conditioned, linen provided, 2 x toilets, hot showers, & entertainment deck and large dive deck.

Adrenalin Snorkel & Dive also operates Liveaboard trips and Dive Courses from Open Water to Assistant Instructor. Adrenalin Snorkel & Dive have own onsite purpose built training facility with pool fully equipped for courses and refreshers.

Accredited Information CentreSituated right on the waterfront in the heart of Cardwell, this eco tourism facility specialises in providing both tourist and interpretive information about Cardwell, Hinchinbrook Island and Channel and environs. The Centre is an accredited Wet Tropics Visitor Information Centre.

A larger than life vivid sculptural display takes the visitor on an enchanted journey as the history and structure of the peoples, landscape and wildlife is told. The visitor is led to the final encounter with the delightful talking eel.

From a large, colourful reception area and gift shop, experienced staff offer information and bookings for accommodation and local tours, while both a video presentation and a digital dvd and monitor display non-stop footage of local attractions. The Centre also offers a computerised information kiosk to allow direct online access to National Parks bookings and enquiries. This is a first for North Queensland and one of only three in Queensland.

As well, the desk offers printed material on Queensland National Parks, native local flora & fauna, walking trails and issues camping permits.

The Museum of Tropical Queensland explores the heritage of North Queensland. A gateway to the region, MTQ offers an introduction to life in the tropics where visitors can discover tropical environments and cultural diversity: from shipwrecks and corals of the Great Barrier Reef and to the vivid life and indigenous cultures of the rainforest.

The museum’s key attractions are the Pandora exhibition, which tells the thrilling sequel to the mutiny on the Bounty; the Enchanted Rainforest exhibit, revealing the environmental and cultural importance of the rainforest; there’s the MindZone science centre for children of all ages and much more!

The museum is open from 9.30 a.m. until 5.00 p.m. daily, excluding Christmas Day, Good Friday and the morning of Anzac Day.

Scenic Railway

The original Kuranda Scenic Railway is a spectacular journey comprising unsurpassed views of World Heritage Listed rainforest, steep ravines and picturesque waterfalls within the Barron Gorge National Park.

This famous railway winds its way through 15 hand carved tunnels, across the giant bridge over Stoney Creek Falls, past the spectacular Barron Falls and onto Kuranda, the village in the rainforest.

Constructed between 1882 and 1891 it is considered an engineering feat of tremendous magnitude. Hundreds of men were employed to build the renowned railway that stands as a monument to the pioneers of Tropical North Queensland.

Billabong Sanctuary is located on the highway 17kms south of Townsville. The sanctuary covers 25 acres and displays Australia’s native animals in their natural habitat – rainforest, eucalypt forest and wetlands.

These are just some of the unforgettable hands on adventures you can experience at the Billabong. A visit to the tropical north just wouldn’t be complete without seeing some of Australia’s fantastic wildlife up close.

Just 20 minutes north of Cairns at Palm Cove, Cairns Tropical Zoo has fascinating daily presentations featuring many of your “must see” animals. Get close to eagles and other birds during the free flight bird show, hear the jaw slam of giant saltwater crocodiles and learn about stunning snakes including the world’s most venomous snake.

Join in the endangered exotics tour and see beautiful red pandas and lively ring tailed lemurs. Cuddle a koala (extra cost), hand feed the kangaroos and the pelicans – it’s all here.
